On 10th Oct, 2020 the Culture Circle, of New Acropolis, hosted an online session titled “From the Formless to the Form” by Miti Desai. Miti is a Classical dancer, designer and educator. Her journey started with the external medium of graphic design, however  an innate urge to internalise design, led her to exploring this through Classical Indian Dance.. Indian Dance has been the key to Miti’s return to her cultural roots & in creating her view of the world.
Through the session Miti’s shared her own investigation on how culture engages with life. For instance, using a quote from The Vastu Sutra Upanishad Miti explained, “From the formless arises the form”. The form is the symbolic realisation of the principle in traditional Indian Art. This thought has been an inspiration and guiding light in her journey as a designer and artist.
She explored the essence and aesthetics of multiple Traditional Indian Art forms, explaining that all forms are symbolic, they have a principle behind it,  that invites us to explore and go beyond the form. Proposing, if from the formless comes the form, maybe  the purpose of the form is to take us back to the formless, to the essential principles of Life.
