Socrates, renowned as one of the greatest philosophers of our times, continues to inspire us with his unwavering dedication to truth and his remarkable courage. Despite his humility, he fearlessly pursued a life of inquiry and investigation, leaving a strong footprint for philosophers who followed. New Acropolis Main Centre hosted a talk on 27 May, 2023 titled “Dare to be Authentic: Lessons from Socrates” the second event in the “Hero Within” series.Drawing inspiration from the life of Socrates, the speaker shared how we can reflect on his example to find the courage to embrace authenticity in our own daily lives.
True wisdom lies in acknowledging our limitations and recognising the inner voice that guides us to act beyond our circumstances, challenging assumptions, critically examining ideas and developing our own independent thoughts. Being authentic requires courage. It means standing up for truth and Goodness, even in the face of challenging circumstances rather than fall to conformity or superficiality.
Let us draw inspiration from Socrates’s legacy and strive for authenticity in our own lives, to have the courage to speak the truth, to question assumptions, and to remain steadfast in our commitment to self-discovery.
