In the midst of complexities of modern existence, can an ancient Egyptian ritual known as the “Weighing of the Heart” serve as a source of inspiration for practical philosophy while also teaching us to follow our heart?
On 28 October 2023, New Acropolis Main Centre hosted a talk titled “Way of the Heart: An Encounter with Ancient Egypt” to explore practical suggestions to leading a meaningful life. Based on an ancient papyrus illustration commonly known as the Papyrus of Ani, this ritual depicts the universal human yearning for meaning in our everday life. The speakers explored how perhaps we can develop the ability to look inwards to the essence of who we are and align our actions accordingly. The path of philosophy is also known as the way of the heart, to better ourselves and offer this as a contribution to bettering our world. In practice, this teaches us the necessity of correcting our own flaws and lightening the burden of our own hearts, keeping it light as a feather for a profound sense of purpose and fulfilment.
