On 24 October 2020, The Culture Circle, presented by New Acropolis, hosted a online drawing workshop titled “ Breathe between the Lines”, by acclaimed sculptor Arzan Khambatta. An Architect by profession and sculptor by choice, Arzan began his art form soon after school, by collecting scrap from the streets creating pieces of art he fondly called “Scraptures”. Today his works adorn Mumbai city, private homes as well as corporate offices. Arzan loves theatre design and directed his first movie, Decible’.

Through this workshop, he presented the ability of drawing to help us develop concentration and focus. Arzan explained how drawing of a series of simple lines, focuses one’s mind on the task , enabling it to let go of the myriad thoughts that occupy it, thus allowing us to ‘”breathe between the lines”. Interpreting the pattern of drawings, he drew parallels of the artists state of mind, inferring that when relaxed the lines drawn are smooth and flowing, and when agitated, the lines are jagged. He explained that this type of drawing helps the mind to focus and relax itself into an almost meditative state.   Arzan demonstrated simple yet powerful drawing techniques to assist with uncluttering our minds and attaining a level of calm.

He ended by showing his own intricate drawings, exhorting us to experiment fearlessly, unconcerned by the result.
